Back to Back Centuries for Bates!

04 May 2017

If you thought Suzie Bates hadn’t achieved enough already then add getting two centuries in two days to the list!

Bates made an impressive debut for Hampshire Women in the weekend, scoring 105 runs off just 102 deliveries! She then backed up this performance with the ball by obtaining figures of 2/12 which helped her team defeat Wales Women by 10 runs (D/L System).

Just 24 hours later, Bates continued her outstanding batting form, topping her earlier innings by scoring a well crafted 139 not out against Worcestershire Women.

Bates will be in England for 6 months. She will play 5 x 50 over games for Hampshire before she leaves to lead the White Ferns World Cup Campaign beginning on the 11th of June.

The wealth of knowledge and leadership that Bates brings to the team provides an invaluable experience for her teammates stating that “The Hampshire team are a very young side with a number of players still at high school. At team training and during the week I try to help them out as much as I can”.

Whilst in England Bates will continue to inspire the next generation of cricketers by going on school visits run by the Vipers Ambassador Programme.

Following the World Cup, she will return to Hampshire for a few more games before having a week’s break visiting her Aunt and Uncle in Naxos Island in Greece. She will then return to England to play for the Southern Vipers in the T20 Super League during August. Last season Bates scored 232 runs at an average of 42 which helped the Vipers win the Super League title.

With the World Cup just around the corner, Bates is ensuring she stays in top form by training as regularly as possible. However, she is looking forward to some well-deserved days off where she hopes to “visit some kiwi friends” and travel to West Bay to enjoy the different environment and do things such as have a look around the site where Broadchurch was filmed.

We wish Suzie all the best for her time overseas and for her World Cup Campaign with the White Ferns. Their first round robin game is against India on Monday the 19th of June in Derby.
