Broom Returns for Round 220 Nov 2019
Experienced batsman Neil Broom will return to the Otago Volts lineup for their round two clash with the Wellington Firebirds at John Davies Oval in Queenstown tomorrow.
The 35-year-old hasn’t played since the Volts’ Plunket Shield opener in October and was unavailable for the Volts’ Ford Trophy opener against Northern Districts on Sunday evening due to injury.
Broom’s return is one of two changes made to the squad by Volts head coach Rob Walter.
Michael Rae and Max Chu drop out of the squad and Broom and fast bowler Blair Soper come in - Mark Craig and opener Hamish Rutherford are unavailable due to injury.
Green Island left-armer Soper, will make his List A debut if selected – it will be his first appearance in the Otago side since March, 2016.
The Volts got their Ford Trophy campaign off to a perfect start under lights against Northern Districts on Sunday.
Nick Kelly reached his highest List A score with a blistering 120 and Josh Finnie found some form with a well-made 58.
The pair hit more sixes than any other players during the first round of fixtures on Sunday and the addition of Broom in the top order means the Volts batting lineup is sitting solid heading into a repeat of last year’s final tomorrow.
Tomorrows match will be the first domestic cricket match played at John Davies Oval in Queenstown - known for its stunning Remarkables backdrop - since January 2015.
Play gets underway from 11.00am in Queenstown – spectator entry is free.
