SBS Bank Otago Sparks secure Aussie duo11 Dec 2019
The SBS Bank Otago Sparks will be able to call upon some international firepower for their upcoming Dream11 Super Smash campaign.
Australian duo Lisa Griffith and Hannah have confirmed they will join the Sparks for all or part of the competition which starts this Friday in Lincoln.
Darlington, who was recently named the WBBL’s Young Gun - the gong for the best player aged under 21 at the start of the season – had a breakthrough year in the Big Bash.
The 17-year-old made her debut for the Thunder on the same day that she sat her Year 12 English exam and went on to play all 14 games for the Sydney side, finish as their leading wicket-taker.
Griffith, also from the Thunder, returns to the Sparks after a spell with the side at last year’s Super Smash central Lincoln round.
Griffith starred with the ball in her four matches for the Sparks last year, helping the side to two wins out of four, including best figures of 3-10 in the win over the Northern Spirit.
The Aussie duo will join the team immediately – Darlington will be available for the entire competition, while Griffith will play the opening five rounds before returning to Australia to honour domestic commitments with New South Wales.
The Sparks have also acquired the services of former England captain Charlotte Edwards as assistant coach for the Super Smash campaign.
Edwards, who is the current coach of Kia Super League side the Southern Vipers and director of women's cricket at Hampshire, will assist head coach Nathan King for the T20 campaign.
Alongside the overseas additions, the Sparks will also be able to call on the services of WHITE FERNS Suzie Bates and Katey Martin who return from their WBBL commitments with the Adelaide Strikers and the Melbourne Stars.
The Sparks begin their Dream11 Super Smash campaign this Friday against the defending champions the Wellington Blaze in Lincoln
