Talent Development Update - March 202001 Apr 2020
The final month of the season has seen the final Otago A fixture as well as many end of season reviews with players and coaches.
The Otago A fixture versus Auckland A was a very competitive fixture that was played at Queens Park in Invercargill. The Southland team made both Otago and Auckland feel very welcome and the facilities were exceptional given the that one day was lost to rain. We would like to thank Southland for their effort and support in hosting this fixture.
The player and coach review process often promotes detailed reflection on the season past and a look to the future. In summarising the development of age-group players for the 2019-20, we are certain that there has been substantial progress from the players involved in Otago U15 Girls through to Otago A.
We continue to acknowledge that national tournaments are not the pinnacle of age-group cricket, but they do provide a good yard-stick for aspiring young cricketers from our region. With this in mind, it was pleasing to see all our teams compete for long periods of time across various format at these tournaments. Further, we continue to notice that the players who gain exposure to national-level competition return back to their schools and clubs and implement the skills learned. We are now looking forward to reviewing our programmes and figuring out how we can enhance the experience of all those aspiring to represent our region in years to come.
