2017 saw the introduction to our brand new initiative Girls Smash, the first all-girls cricket competition in Otago. Girls Smash is aimed at growing participation in cricket for girls in Years 3-8.
The competition had a strong start with over 500 participants throughout the 6 centres it was run in including; Dunedin, North Otago, Gore, Invercargill, Central and Queenstown.
The philosophy behind Girls Smash is that it is all about having fun and giving it a go. The best thing is that it's playing with and against other girls and it doesn’t matter if they haven’t played before.
Games are 6 aside and only take 40 minutes, with every girl getting a bat and bowl.
There is always heaps of fun had at Girls Smash with music, face painting, lollies, hair ribbon, heaps of giveaways and prizes plus special appearances from WhiteFerns and SBS Bank Otago Sparks players including Leigh Kasperek, Bella James and Ella Brown.
Girls Smash will be returning in Term 4, 2017! To keep updated make sure you Like our Facebook page
