Two new Volts contracts awarded in 2023-24 squad

The first round of Otago Volts domestic contracts has been announced with Wellington Firebirds all-rounder Luke Georgeson named in the initial 15-man Volts squad.

Georgeson, who has spent the last four seasons with the Firebirds, gives the Volts a great all-rounder option with his pace bowling and explosive batting.

“Becoming an Otago Volt is exciting. Otago is a team that I have had good battles with over the last few years. They have a great coaching staff and good senior players in the group, who I am looking forward to learning from,” Georgeson said.

Georgeson joins batsman Thorn Parkes in picking up their first Volts domestic contracts this season. Parkes had several outstanding performances throughout 2022 and 2023 to provide the Volts with strong options in the batting lineup.

Head Coach Dion Ebrahim has highlighted his young, experienced squad to challenge for next season. “I am excited about the squad we have put together and building on the platform we had last season. The balance and depth of our squad is improving, and we are excited about what we can deliver this season”.

Ebrahim is also excited about the signing of Luke Georgeson and what he can add to the Volts. “Luke brings versatility, he can bat one to six and gives us another seam option. He is dynamic in the field and an outstanding individual”.

GM of Performance Steve Martin is delighted with the calibre of the contracted players. “The squad named will be able to build on the strong foundation laid last season. The addition of Parkes and Georgeson strengthens this year's squad”.

The Volts will also be joined by BLACKCAPS player Glenn Phillips who received a New Zealand Cricket central contract last month and returns for his second season with the team.

The final round of domestic contracting which will feature all 16 domestic contracted players will be released on 20th July.
