Black & Duffy Take Top Awards

 Otago Cricket

Otago seam bowlers Emma Black and Jacob Duffy take the top awards at the annual Otago Cricket Awards on Wednesday evening.

After being named Womens Domestic Player of the Year last month at the New Zealand Cricket Awards, Emma Black scooped a handful of awards, including the SBS Bank Otago Sparks Cricketer of the Year.

Black picked up 37 wickets across T20 and List-A competitions, including an Otago record-equalling, 24 wickets during the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield championship campaign.

Black capped her successful season by debuting for the New Zealand Women's A team in March.

Otago’s all-time leading wicket-taker Jacob Duffy was awarded the Otago Volts Cricketer of the Year, after another successful season with the ball.

Duffy took 53 wickets this domestic season. Duffy reached 100 Super Smash wickets this year and broke Otago’s 30 plus year wickets record against Northern Districts in November last year.

Duffy’s domestic success has seen him selected for the BLACKCAPS tour of Pakistan later this month.

Key winners during the evening included Otago Sparks Polly Inglis (Players Player  & Fielder of the Year), Caitlin Blakely (Batter of the Year) and Otago Volts Dale Phillips (Batter, Fielder & Plunket Shield Player of the Year) and Luke Georgeson (Players Player & Ford Trophy Player of the Year) to celebrate a successful evening.

The evening also recognized the talent being produced throughout the Otago and Southland regions, with three players receiving the Patrons Scholarship.

Isy Parry, Hugo Bogue & Mason Clarke were awarded the scholarship, which will help fund and support their cricketing development and skills not only in New Zealand, but internationally too.

Otago Cricket would like to again extend out congratulations to all of the winners from the evening.
