White Ferns offspinner Eden Carson and top order batter Dale Phillips scooped the top awards at the annual Otago Cricket Awards on Wednesday evening.
Carson won a handful of awards including the SBS Bank Otago Sparks Super Smash player of the Year, outstanding individual performance (partnership with PJ Watkins to win the HBJ Shield final) and SBS Bank Otago Sparks bowler of the Year.
Carson picked up 40 wickets across both formats to surpass the previous Otago record set by teammate Emma Black in the previous season. Carson played a winning role with the bat in assisting the Sparks to lift the HBJ shield.
Top order batsman Dale Phillips had an impressive season scoring 1094 runs across all formats and developed into a handy offspinner snaring 12 wickets in his breakout bowling season. Phillips surpassed 3,000 First Class runs. Alongside the Cricketer of the Year award, Phillips was also awarded the Volts batter of the Year, and Volts fielder of the Year.
Key winners during the evening included Otago Sparks Polly Inglis (Batter and Fielder of the Year), Matt Bacon (Ford Trophy Player of the Year and bowler of the Year), Caitlin Blakely (Players Player of the Year), Max Chu (Super Smash Player of the Year and Players Player of the Year), Felicity Robertson (HBJ Player of the Year), Thorn Parkes (Plunket Shield Player of the Year) and Anna Browning and Jamal Todd received the award for rising stars.
The evening also recognised the talent coming through the Otago and Southland regions, with Anna Browning receiving the Patrons Scholarship.
Otago Cricket would like to again extend our congratulations to all the winners from the evening.
