He holds numerous run-scoring records for the Otago, including the most first-class centuries by any player at 21. He has spent several years as a successful broadcaster for Sky Sport in both the International and Domestic game, and brings significant knowledge of and passion for the game to the role.

Simon Forde, Manager Performance & Talent is very pleased to have secured someone of Cummings experience.

“Craig has a significant history of involvement in Otago Cricket since the 1990’s as a player, administrator and most recently as a coach. His many experiences in the game will benefit the SBS Bank Otago Sparks greatly. I am very confident the playing group will enjoy his approach to the game and learn a great deal as a result. Our main driver is the personal development of our players towards representing the WHITEFERNS and I’m fully confident that Craig with the support of quality support staff will exceed those objectives”.

Craig Cumming spoke enthusiastically about the opportunity to lead the Sparks.

”I am really excited about being given the opportunity to be the head coach of the SBS Bank Otago Sparks. The game of cricket and coaching is something I am very passionate about and I can’t wait to work alongside all the members of the Sparks squad to help them develop as individuals, cricketers and as a team” said Cumming.

Cumming will commence his new role with Otago Cricket from 1 September and will look to confirm his support staff as soon as possible.

Cumming replaces Nathan King who stepped down from the role in May to spend more time with his young family, after 3 years as Head Coach.
