Veterans Cricket in New Zealand has grown significantly over the last few years. Otago has players in teams from Mens Over 40s to Over 70s across two divisions that compete each year in the National Tournaments run by Veterans Cricket NZ (VCNZ)

From the 2025/26 season, Otago Veterans Cricket (with support from OCA) are moving towards having Otago teams across all age groups at the national tournaments.

Our aim is to build a database of cricketers keen to represent Otago, as players or other roles. It is important to note that you don’t have to currently reside in Otago to be eligible.

Whilst there isn’t a National Women’s Tournament at this point, we are also looking to build up a database of Veteran’s female players (From Over 35 upwards) that are interested in being involved in the game and develop opportunities from here.

"When I moved to Central Otago in 2022, I had no real desire to play cricket again, but after meeting some of the guys playing Veterans Cricket they persuaded me to give it a go and I am so glad I did.

Over the last two years I have met some great people (both the guys and their wives) who are all at a similar stage of life to me. I have also enjoyed some relaxed yet competitive cricket on some really beautiful grounds. Every year I get to look forward to the national tournament in February and then if I do well enough, it is off to Australia to represent New Zealand at the Australian State Championships in November. I would thoroughly recommend giving Veterans Cricket a go to anyone who loves the game and enjoys travelling."
